Boys Go To Jupiter
Nassau, Bahamas
Pop-up Solo Exhibition
July 3rd - 23rd
Boys Go To Jupiter continues my exploration of Black childhood, memory, and play, using dolls in school uniforms to reflect collective experiences shaped by gendered expectations. Centered around the ring pop and a familiar playground taunt, this series examines how early social conditioning influences ideas of aspiration and value. Set in sparse, imagined playgrounds, these works reclaim innocence while quietly challenging the systems embedded in childhood cultural norms.

In conversation, Veronica Dorsett, Preetika Rajgariah, and Gio Swaby tend to quotidian aestheticized spaces of adornment and ritual. Textile, illustration, collage, and embroidery breathe life into haptic expressionism, presenting an intimate perspective motivated by the multiplicity of their realities while reflecting on the role of portraiture not only in art's historical intervention but also in its ability to sow meaningful interrogations of women's subjectivity. The exhibition explores the inexhaustible desire to see oneself through visual culture and storytelling, framing self-imaging or portraiture within cross-disciplinary material practices.
GOD SAY SHARE!
Nassau, Bahamas
Solo Exhibition
Oct 12th, 2024 - Nov 25th, 2024
Revisiting childhood through the window of snacks and canned foods tied to a cultural identity, the Bahamian adage “God say share” gives a jovial look at a coming of age while forming your own identity amongst the perils of self-perception. Though this adage could be related to any religious affiliation like ‘loving your neighbor’ or ‘doing unto others as you would have them do unto you’, this is not a direct quote from any biblical text. Often thought to come to life on many primary school playgrounds in the Bahamas, “God say share” implores that whether you want to share or not, you are ordered to do so by a supreme being.
